Hostel that feels like Home

Part of my “job” as a travel blogger is trying out as many different hostels as possible, so I can share with you all my great (and not so great) experiences! I love sharing all the tiny tidbits I find out so as to make other people’s traveling experience as best as possible.  For example, I fell in LOVE with Caledonian Backpackers in Edinburgh, Scotland which had an amazing vibe to it and you were always meeting new people in their gigantic lounge area (which also included free computers and internet access).  However, if you’re looking for a nice warm shower every morning, this is not the hostel for you.

I have absolutely no complaints about Fairman House Independent Hostel in Derry, Northern Ireland.  This hostel is located about a 10-15 minute walk away from the city center and you are treated like a family member right when you walk in.

Fairman house is run by a lovely old couple named Stella and Liam, who immediately welcome you into their home like you were one of their own.  Right away they sit you down for a cup of tea and biscuits, wanting to hear all about yourself and travels before anything else. I loved waking up in the morning to Liam softly singing Irish songs in the dining room and then coming down to make breakfast with Stella while we talk about our lives.

The first room you walk into in Fairman house is their massive living/dining room area, which is set up with comfortable couches, a TV and a dining room table.

The room right next to the dining room is their kitchen, which is not only extremely clean, but comes with pots and pans and dishes galore!  Every morning a free breakfast is offered (which you make yourself).  Stella and Liam provide fruit, cereal, oatmeal, fresh bread, eggs, bacon and milk (delish!) There are also cupboards that are full of spices that you are more than welcome to try.

Rooms and beds are always very clean and you have nice, warm already washed sheets waiting for you!

Bathroom and showers are also always well kept and the water is warm!!!
